CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities have released dash camera video of a chase where a suspect led investigators on a high speed chase on I-26 in a pursuit that started in West Ashley and ended in Orangeburg.
In the newly released video, authorities are seen pursuing the suspect who is driving a Lincoln Navigator along I-26 on Monday. The Charleston County Sheriff's Office is still searching for the driver.
Throughout the video, the suspect's vehicle is seen dodging stop sticks laid out on the road.
According to an incident report, the incident started when deputies were called out to a parking lot near 1975 Magwood Drive on Monday around 7:50 p.m. after being tipped off that a drug deal was going to take place.
As an officer approached the suspect's white Lincoln Navigator with his gun drawn, deputies say the vehicle pulled forward at a high rate of speed, jumped a concrete and grass median, and took off on Magwood Dr. towards Glenn McConnell Parkway.
The report states deputies chased the Navigator through West Ashley, hitting Glenn McConnell Parkway, Orleans Rd, Sam Rittenberg Blvd, Savannah Hwy, and a number of other streets before getting on I-526 and I-26 Westbound.
Deputies say the suspect threw a baggie containing a white substance out of his window near mile marker 187 on I-26 westbound. Deputies recovered another discarded baggie containing 5.2 ounces of cocaine in the area of Davan Dr. and Wendy Lane off Ashley Hall Rd.
Officials say the chase reached speeds of 100 mph. Dorchester County deputies also assisted with the chase.
The report states deputies were called off the pursuit near mile marker 154 because they were losing their radio communications signal. The suspect continued driving down I-26 westbound.
The suspect, who has not been identified at this time, is wanted for failure to stop for blue lights and for trafficking cocaine.
