Joel Bunting scored his 2nd goal of the day in Sudden Death Overtime with less than 20 seconds to go to give Bishop England the AA Boys State Championship with a 4-3 win over Indian Land at Gilbert High School on Saturday.
It was Indian Land who got a high scoring first half started jumping out to a 2-0 lead within the first 11 minutes.
But the Bishops would come storming back.
First it was Bunting who scored just a minute after the Warriors 2nd goal to cut the lead down to 2-1. After that, captain Mateo Gomez would come through with 2 goals in the span of just over a minute to give Bishop England a 3-2 lead.
But that lead didn't last long.
A minute after taking the lead, Indian Land tied it right back as Anthony Cutrone connected on a free kick past Ross Rogers to even things at 3 apiece.
The scoring would come to a halt after that though as neither team was able to get on the board the last 15 minutes of the first half, the entire 2nd half or either of the 10 minute overtime periods.
Finally, in the 109th minute, it was Bunting who worked his way through the defense and got one past Jake Barton to give Bishop England their 11th state title in the last 15 seasons. For the school, it's the 6 state championship of the year joining Girls Track, Boys Golf, Volleyball, Girls Tennis and Football.
