Couple charged in hit-and-run that killed horse, injured rider

Investigators have charged a couple in connection to a hit-and-run that killed a horse and injured a rider in Adams Run.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office arrested Steven and Caroline Muckenfuss last Friday. Caroline Muckenfuss was charged with hit and run resulting in great bodily injury, malicious injury to animals and failure to report an accident with personal injuries.
Steven Muckenfuss was charged with misprision of a felony.

The arrests stem from a March 30, 2013 incident where a vehicle struck a horse and it's rider on Highway 174 near Dawhoo Road in Adams Run.

The rider of the horse was thrown from the impact and sustained injuries. The horse sustained fatal injuries from the incident.

Authorities say the investigation resulted in the identification and recovery of the vehicle used in the accident. The sheriff's office says the vehicle used in the incident was a red 1990 Ford F250 truck registered to both Steven and Caroline Muckenfuss of Hollywood, SC.

Both of the suspects were released on bond on Saturday.
