SUMMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Summerville police say they have arrested an 18-year-old suspect who broke into a home early Thursday morning and shot the homeowner.
James Lamont Singleton was arrested near the scene and charged with first degree burglary, two counts of attempted murder, kidnapping, and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.
According to Captain Jon Rogers with the Summerville Police Department, officers were called to a home in the 100 block of Pintail Drive around 1:45 a.m.
Police say the suspect broke into the home, and at some point during the burglary the homeowner was shot.
The victim's grandmother told Live 5 News Singleton threatened to shoot her granddaughter in the head, but ended up shooting her in the leg and hip after she fought back.
She says the victim was taken to Summerville Medical, and then transported to MUSC for surgery.
The homeowners fiance was in the house at the time of the burglary, but was able to get away, according to the victim's grandmother.
The investigation is ongoing.
