GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents say they have arrested a Pawleys Island man who funneled more than $35,000 from a safety organization into his own pocket.

Robert A. Beebe, II, 43, was arrested Thursday and charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent, value of more $10,000 or more.

SLED agents say between May 2006 and March 2013, Beebe used his position as secretary and treasurer of the South Carolina Fire and Life Safety Education Association to steal roughly $36,000 from the association.

According to a court affidavit, the money was converted for his own personal use.

The association works to promote fire and life safety education to the public in order to reduce injuries and raise awareness for safety issues.

The felony breach of trust charge carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison or a fine.
