CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina Aquarium on Charleston Harbor has 5,500 creatures ranging from bald eagles and river otters to sharks and stingrays. And it's opening a new exhibit to help visitors see just how staffers care for those critters.
The animal care exhibit opening Saturday provides a look into a real veterinary operating room as well as videos, interactive electronic displays and hands-on exhibits.
The $69 million aquarium was opened in 2000 and has permanent exhibits portraying the natural habitat of South Carolina from the mountains to the sea. That's why there are so many different creatures.
The centerpiece of the new exhibit is circular window looking into the aquarium's new surgery room. An interactive display allows visitors to push a button and see what each piece of equipment does.
