COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP/WCSC) - South Carolina Treasurer Curtis Loftis checked himself into a hospital Monday after suffering chest pains.
According to Bill Leidinger, Chief of Staff for the treasurer, Loftis woke up early Monday morning with pains in his chest and down his arm. After consulting with his personal doctor, he was admitted to a hospital in Columbia.
Leidinger says Loftis may be discharged Tuesday afternoon.
Spokesman Brian DeRoy says the Republican treasurer has been working long days recently and suspects he suffered from exhaustion.
According to the treasurer's Facebook page, Loftis underwent a number of tests and received medication. He is now feeling much better, but more tests will be performed Tuesday.
Loftis' fight with the commission that oversees retirees' pension funds in the state led to a lawsuit last month that was quickly settled.
