Clowney Honored By South Carolina General Assembly


University of South Carolina rising junior defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was honored by the South Carolina General Assembly in a ceremony at the State House on Tuesday for his outstanding sophomore campaign, and to congratulate him on his 2012 AT&T National Player of the Year and SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors. 

The Rock Hill, S.C., native concluded last season with 54 tackles, including a school record 23.5 for loss, while his 13.0 sacks also marked a school record. Winner of the Hendricks Award as the nation's outstanding defensive end, Clowney was also a finalist for the Nagurski Trophy, the Rotary Lombardi Award and the Bednarik Award. He became just the second South Carolina selection as a unanimous first-team All-American and was named first-team All-SEC last season. 

South Carolina opens the 2013 campaign hosting North Carolina on Aug. 29 at Williams-Brice Stadium. That contest will be televised on ESPN at 6 p.m. ET.
