City Council passes 'late night entertainment' ordinance

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston City Council passed new regulation for bars during its meeting Tuesday, requiring businesses to change their security during late night hours.

The Late Night Entertainment Establishment Ordinance will require bars to have someone at the door at all times after midnight and have one security guard for every 100 people.

Businesses will also have to close their doors and windows if music is played after 11 p.m..

Some amendments were made to the ordinance before it passed, including a stipulation that  fewer security guards will be required for bars with smaller occupancy limits.

The ordinance will be primarily enforced Thursday through Saturday.
