Video shows man stealing rent payments from apt. complex drop box

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The North Charleston Police Department has released video surveillance of a burglar using a long, curved object to steal rent checks and money orders turned in by tenants from a drop box at the Ivy Ridge Apartment complex.

Police say the thefts happened around 3:30 a.m. at the apartments on Greenridge Road.  Police said the investigation began after management at the complex notified several tenants about rent being late.  The tenants told management they dropped the payments in the nighttime drop box.

Video shows a black male suspect appearing to be between 25 and 35 years old, wearing all black and a baseball cap, steal the checks and money orders from the box.  It appears the suspect is using a long, thin, bendable object with something on the bottom of it to remove the items from the box.

Police say it appears the suspect stole about five envelopes.
