Bond denied for woman charged with fatally stabbing man

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A North Charleston woman is behind bars after police say she stabbed a 45-year-old man to death on Sunday morning.

Deputy Chief Scott Deckard with the North Charleston Police Department said officers arrested 26-year-old Regina Cherell Carey during a traffic stop on Sunday after finding Tony Cleveland dead on the porch of his home at 1070 Bexley Street around 10:30 a.m.

A witness at the scene told police Carey stabbed Cleveland before fleeing the scene with three young children.  Another woman inside the home said Carey and Cleveland had been arguing, and when she emerged from the shower she heard an altercation.

The woman told police she walked outside to find the witness trying to separate Carey and Cleveland.  At that moment, the woman said she saw Cleveland fall to the ground.

When EMS officials arrived, he had no pulse, the police report states.

Carey was arrested during a traffic stop and police took her to the Charleston County Detention Center.  She was denied bond during a hearing on Monday.

Deckard said the three children were found safe.
