Cops: Man shot in chest inside N. Charleston store

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston police say they are looking for two suspects after a man was shot inside a store near the corner of Rivers and Durant avenues on Tuesday morning.

Deputy Chief Scott Deckard of the North Charleston Police Department said officers responded to Knight's Food Store at 4226 Rivers Avenue around 8:15 a.m. in reference to an alarm.  Officers arrived to find a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest.

Police searched the area with Charleston County sheriff's deputies and a helicopter was called in for help, but the suspects were not located.

Deckard was not able to provide a detailed description of the suspects, but said they wore dark clothing and had their faces covered.

Three nearby elementary schools in North Charleston were briefly locked down from 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. while authorities searched the area: Malcolm C. Hursey Elementary School, Chicora Elementary School, and Morningside Elementary School.
