MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Students and faculty at Moultrie Middle School held a shoe drive last week for victims of the devastating tornado in Moore, Oklahoma.
The idea came from 8th grader Addison Ware, who knew that JetBlue airlines had offered to ship shoes to Oklahoma. As Ware gathered shoes from her own closet, she realized how many "like new" shoes she and her classmates wore.
Following an email requesting donations, the school collected over 300 pairs in all shapes and sizes.
Other students at Moultrie, Garret Mulvey, Madison Frank and Ethan Clark, had a great idea to add a note of encouragement to the shoes and made origami swans with a message to include with the shoes.
The National Guard Auxiliary received the shoes this week to be distributed to the victims there.
