FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCSC) - Folly Beach County Park is expected to be open to the public just in time for the Fourth of July, according to officials with the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission.
Crews have been working to restore Folly Beach County Park since the beginning of May. The restoration is part of the Folly Beach County Park Stabilization Project.
Officials announced Wednesday work on the park is moving smoothly, and the goal is to open by the week of July 4, or earlier.
Nearly 200,000 cubic yards of sand was pumped onto Folly in order to renourish the beach. Crews are now laying armor stone and gravel for stabilization.
Officials say grading of the roadway and parking areas is scheduled to be completed by the end of this week.
An exact opening date will be announced after more progress is made, officials say.
