SCE&G reports thousands without power in Charleston Co.

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - SCE&G says roughly 5,600 customers lost power on Friday morning as rain and wind from Tropical Storm Andrea continues to move through the Lowcountry.

Power was restored to most of those homes by 7 a.m., with only roughly 1,300 outages still being reported by the power company.

Most of the outages were reported along Savannah Highway in West Ashley just north of Interstate 526.  Almost 2,600 customers in that area were without power.  Almost 300 outages were reported near the corner of Ashley River and Playground roads.  20 customers who live along River Reach Way, near the North Bridge, are also without power.

A number of outages have also been reported in Meggett, along Ethel Post Office Road. That outage is affecting approximately 342 customers.

On James Island, over 700 people were without power near Folly and Harborview roads.  About 20 customers who live off Maybank Highway near Riverland Drive also lost power.

In North Charleston, about 40 people are without power on Barnwell Avenue and near the corner of South Rhett Avenue and Bexley Street. About 20 people are also without power on Hayne Street, off Townsend Road.

Berkeley Electric Cooperative has reported about 600 customers are without power on Seabrook Island, Johns Island, and in Ravenel.  SCE&G reported 30 people without power near the corner of Highway 165 and Fox Drive.

In Colleton County, about 89 customers were without power in the area of Dandridge Road and Maxey Street.

In Summerville, a few homes near Central Avenue and Butternut Road lost power, as did a few homes on Tulip Street.
