Downed power line sets tree on fire on James Island

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities say a downed power line set a tree on fire in a James Island neighborhood on Friday morning.

According to officials with Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch, power lines fell on Carlin Avenue, just off Folly Road near Harborview Road.  The lines and tree fell into the road a little after 5 a.m.

James Island and Charleston firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the small brush fire.

Traffic was briefly blocked in the area.

Shortly after the lines went down, over 700 customers in the area lost power, according to SCE&G.
