Lieber prison warden to be officially sworn in

DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Department of Corrections will hold a formal swearing-in ceremony this Friday for the recently-appointed warden of Lieber Correctional Institution.

South Carolina Department of Corrections spokesman Clark Newsom said Monday Joseph L. McFadden would be sworn in as new warden for the prison this Friday.  He replaces Wayne C. McCabe, now a member of the SCDC Training and Development staff at the training academy in Columbia.

McFadden was the associate warden at the prison from 2011 to last October, when he was named warden.

McFadden is a native of Clarendon County and has served with the South Carolina Department of Corrections since September 1994, when he began his career at the Turbeville Correctional Institution.

A military veteran, Warden McFadden also holds an Associate's degree in Public Service from Central Carolina Technical College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Management from Morris College. Warden McFadden also earned a Master's degree in Criminal Justice from Troy University.

Lieber Correctional Institution is one of six, Level 3, high security institutions at the Department of Corrections designed to house primarily violent offenders with longer sentences and inmates who exhibit behavioral problems. SCDC's Death Row inmates are also housed at the facility.
