Man arrested on drug dealing charges following traffic stop

JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A 24-year-old man has been arrested on drug dealing charges following a traffic stop on Johns Island.

The Charleston Police Department has charged Darius Pinckney with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

On Sunday morning, police were on patrol in the area of Bohicket and Angel Oak roads when officers stopped a car which crossed over a solid yellow line. According to investigators, the passenger, Pinckney, was breathing rapidly and began digging in between his seat and the center console.

Officers reported that Pinckney had a large sum of cash in small denominations in both of his pockets, and a strong odor of marijuana was coming from him and the vehicle. Investigators say a clear plastic bag, containing fragments of a white powdery substance, was ripped open and in plain view on top of the center console.

A police report states that officers found drugs in a cigarette package which was found in the area where Pinckney had been digging with his hand before stepping out of the vehicle.

Police say inside the cigarette package contained 3.3 grams of marijuana and 3.7 grams of cocaine.

Authorities then arrested Pinckney who admitted to police that the drugs were his.
