CofC's Wise Named To NCBWA Freshman All-America Second Team

College of Charleston freshman infielder Carl Wise has been selected to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-America Second Team.

Despite only starting the last 38 games of the season, Wise finished second on the team with a .321 batting average and led the squad with 10 home runs. His .606 slugging percentage ranked seventh in the Southern Conference and 39th in the nation, while his team-best .453 on-base percentage ranked fifth in the SoCon.

Wise was selected to the All-Southern Conference Freshman team at the end of the regular season. He was the only player from the SoCon selected to the Freshman All-America teams.

A native of Lexington, S.C., Wise finished the season on a tear, smashing five home runs and totaling 12 RBIs in the final five games. He was a perfect four-for-four with four runs, four RBI, two homers and a double in CofC's final game in the SoCon Tournament against Elon.

Wise was the only player on the team to have two multiple-HR games and his first career hit as a Cougar was a solo home run to dead center on Feb. 19 against Charleston Southern.

Wise continues the Cougar baseball tradition of All-America accolades, as he is the ninth All-American coached by Monte Lee in the past five seasons. College of Charleston baseball can boast of an All-America representative in 13 consecutive seasons dating back to 2001.
