BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

A Hilton Head Island man accused of using Facebook ford lewd communication with a number of young girls was arrested Tuesday.

According to the Beaufort County Sheriff's office, 23-year-old Dionicio Gomez was arrested Tuesday morning on four counts of disseminating obscene materials to a minor after he sent Facebook messages containing explicit language, sexual and drug references, and graphic photos of sexual acts and male genitalia to several Beaufort Co. girls between the ages of 12-14.

Using fictitious Facebook profiles under the names of “Alex Maginnis” and “Diony Gomez,” he sent “Friend” requests to each of the girls, investigators say. Believing him to be someone they knew, the girls accepted the requests and began communicating with Gomez via the social network. Eventually the subjects of Gomez’s messages evolved to include illicit references to pornography, drug use, and sexual activities. Once the victims began receiving pornographic photos and requests to send nude pictures of themselves, they became fearful and alerted their parents, who in turn, notified law enforcement.

The case remains active as Sheriff’s Office investigators are working closely with agents from both the US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security Investigations. It is believed that Gomez may have contacted or made similar solicitations from numerous other young victims through Facebook. Additional charges may be pending as the investigation continues.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact either Investigator LCpl. J. Shelton at 843-255-3511.
