CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police say they have arrested a 29-year-old who beat a man in the head with a hammer during a robbery at a construction site last week.
James McLaughlin has been charged with attempted armed robbery and first degree assault and battery. He was granted a $100,000 bond for each charge.
According to an incident report, officers were called out a construction site at 50 George Street on Friday, June 7 at 3:18 p.m. The victim was found on the seventh floor of the building.
The victim told police he was working in the building when McLaughlin approached him and said, "give me your wallet."
When the victim refused, Police say McLaughlin hit him in the back left side of his head with a hammer causing visible injury.
The victim was taken to MUSC, the report states.
McLaughlin is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.
