MEXICO BEACH, Fla. (WCSC/AP) - The Mexico Beach Police Department in Florida has released dash cam video of the arrest of a 31-year-old man suspected of three murders in South Carolina.
Authorities arrested Jeffrey Eady on June 1 in Mexico Beach following a brief car and foot chase.
Capt. Deputy Chief Tim Hightower of the Mexico Beach Police Department says Eady's arrest started after a Bay County Sheriff's Office sergeant contacted him telling him he spotted Eady's vehicle on Highway 98 going towards Mexico Beach.
Hightower said a police officer and the sergeant then began a pursuit of the suspect.
"They got behind on a local street and following a short pursuit, the vehicle turned down a dead end street," Hightower said.
A police report states Eady's vehicle made an abrupt turn between two food stores, Killer Seafood and Gulf Foods. When the officer and sergeant arrived in the area, they realized that Eady had gotten out of the car and took off on foot.
A passerby notified the authorities that he saw someone jump out of the vehicle and run behind Gulf Foods. Other officers then responded to the scene where Eady was eventually caught by the Bay County Sheriff's sergeant.
Eady is accused in the killings of 77-year-old Sadie Brown, 65-year-old Maybell White, who was killed at a recycling business in Clarendon County, and 37-year-old Crystal Johnson of Adams Run.
