The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that Assistant Coach J.B. Bittner has accepted an assistant coaching position with the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League (USHL).

Behind the bench for the last two seasons with the Stingrays, Bittner helped Head Coach Spencer Carbery guide the team to a 75-54-9-6 record and berths in the 2012 and 2013 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Before moving to South Carolina, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, native spent three seasons as an assistant coach and video coordinator with Ohio State University leading the Buckeyes to a 53-51-14 mark.

"It was a pleasure working alongside J.B. over the past two seasons," said Carbery. "He has been an incredible asset to our organization and to me personally. His work ethic and unwavering commitment to making our team better everyday was a testament to his coaching abilities and potential. Although we are sad to see him go, we wish him the best of luck in his professional career."

As a player, Bittner saw ECHL action with the Dayton Bombers, Johnstown Chiefs, Augusta Lynx, Idaho Steelheads and Florida Everblades registering 106 points (38g, 68a) in 161 games over three seasons. He also earned time in the American Hockey League with the Syracuse Crunch, Portland Pirates and Iowa Stars grabbing six goals and three assists for nine points in 30 contests.

Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound forward skated for four seasons at Ohio State where he posted 76 points (37g, 39a) in 160 games, captained the 2004 CCHA Super Six championship team, played on three NCAA tournament teams, received the team's Joseph W. Smith Best Defensive Player award in 2005 and won the Scarlet and Grey award in 2003 and 2005.
