CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities used DNA evidence to tie a man to two church burglaries last year in which only a bagel and a bag of chips were taken, court documents state.
Investigators served an arrest warrant from the Charleston County Sheriff's Office on 53-year-old Thomas Duncan on Thursday. Duncan is charged with two counts of second-degree burglary. He is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.
According to court documents, Duncan broke a window at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Hollywood on Apr. 26 last year and stole a bagel. Two months later, he also broke a window at the Mt. Horr AME Church in Adams Run, where he stole a bag of chips, authorities say.
Investigators said they recovered drops of blood near the broken window from both churches, and DNA tests proved Duncan was the burglar.
He was granted a $100,000 bond during a hearing. He has a lengthy criminal record.
