COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A driver is charged with several counts, including felony DUI, after police say he hit a motorcyclist in Columbia Saturday night.

Columbia Police charged Troy Wilson with felony DUI involving death, hit and run involving death, failure to render aid, driving under suspension, open container in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and a seatbelt violation.

Based on their preliminary investigation, police say Wilson was traveling south on Hazelwood Road when he attempted to turn left on to Burdell Drive and pulled into the path of a northbound motorcycle. After the crash, police say Wilson drove away. The crash occurred at about 9 p.m.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the victim as 48-year-old John E. Sparrow of Hopkins.

Sparrow was taken to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital where he died at 9:39 p.m. Watts said Sparrow died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Police say Wilson eventually returned to the scene where he was arrested.
