Officials release details for 6th remembering of Charleston 9

The 6th Remembrance Ceremony for the Charleston 9 will be held Tuesday at the former Sofa Super Store site at 1807 Savannah Highway.

The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. and will include a lineup of department personnel, the reading of the nine names, and ringing of the bell.  Bagpipes will follow.

The community is invited to join the department and family members to reflect on the tragic loss of June 18th, 2007. Parking at the site will be limited during the ceremony. Visitors are encouraged to utilize various off-site parking in the immediate area.

Charleston fire personnel will initiate a watch at the flagpole of the memorial site starting at midnight and continuing for the 24 hours of June 18. Members of of the community are welcome to visit the site throughout the vigil.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation recently released a video entitled "Charleston 9: The Ultimate Sacrifice". The documentary focused on the recovery of the Charleston Fire Department after the Sofa Super Store incident. The twenty-five minute documentary provides an overview of the department's changes and improvements over the last six years.
