SC Reps: Final budget to include money for Folly renourishment

FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCSC) - SC Representatives Leon Stavrinakis and Peter McCoy say the final state budget will include Folly Beach renourishment funds.

Stavrinakis, McCoy and Speaker of the House Bobby Harrell have been fighting for money to renourish Folly Beach after the S.C. Senate axed the funds last month.

Stavrinakis tweeted Tuesday afternoon, "The final budget will include Beach re-nourishment money for @follybeach_com. Thanks to @petermccoyforsc, @SpeakerHarrell."

The last time Folly Beach was renourished was back in 2005.

Folly Beach County Park is expected to be open to the public just in time for the Fourth of July, according to officials with the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission.

The park has been closed since Hurricane Irene, nearly two years ago, but reconstruction is underway.

Crews have been working to restore Folly Beach County Park since the beginning of May. The restoration is part of the Folly Beach County Park Stabilization Project.
