JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County will ask for permission from the Town of James Island to go ahead with the final plans for the Harbor View Road improvement project.
The plans are based on feedback provided by the public at a public meeting in April.
One of the biggest improvements will be central turn lanes that will be added from North Shore Drive to Affirmation Boulevard. Officials expect this to help with flow and congestion.
The two-mile design plan also calls for a roundabout at Fort Johnson Road, new traffic lights at Fort Sumter Drive and Mikell Drive, and extra turning lanes at major intersections.
The design will have a big impact for pedestrians and cyclists. New bike lanes, sidewalks, and crosswalks will also be added.
If everything goes to plan, the project will begin April 2014 and take about 18 months to complete.
