FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCSC) - Folly Beach County Park has announced an official date for the park's much anticipated grand reopening.
The Folly Beach County Park Stabilization Project is coming into the home stretch and is set to officially open on July 3 at 9 a.m. A grand opening ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on the beach.
Construction is moving into its final stages as crews work to complete the terminal groin of the park. The terminal consists of steel sheet piles and a concrete cap.
Over the next week, roughly 5,000 plants will be planted on the park property. Crews will also complete the park's beach accesses, outdoor showers, and parking spaces.
Officials say a night patrol monitor spotted the park's first sea turtle nest last weekend. Identified as a loggerhead sea turtle nest, the nest contained 135 eggs and was established near the work area.
The nest was relocated to a better location for hatching, officials say.
