BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A Goose Creek man was killed Monday after striking a tree off Highway 176 just outside of Moncks Corner, authorities say.
Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury identified the victim as 71-year-old Baron Hancock.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, Hancokc was traveling north in his 2007 Chevrolet SUV on the highway near Cooper Store Road around 8:45 a.m. when the vehicle ran off the road, over-corrected and struck a tree before overturning.
Hancock, who was not wearing a seat belt, had to be extricated from the vehicle and taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Salisbury said Hancock died from blunt force trauma.
