ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

A former employee is accused of stealing money from the Orangeburg County Treasurer's Office.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division arrested 41-year-old Vickie L. Haynes on Thursday and charged her with one count of embezzlement of public funds of $10,000 or more.

An affidavit states between April 2, 2012 and Jan. 14, 2013, Haynes stole funds from the Orangeburg County Treasurer's Office where she was employed.

According to court records, during the eight month period, Haynes made cash deposits into her personal accounts totaling $144,725.

Court records state her salary was $23,507.

Authorities say Haynes wrote checks from her bank account and a joint bank account she shared with her son, and cashed the checks at the treasurer's office to cover the amounts she had stolen.
