Goose Creek smoking ban goes into effect

GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - A ban making it illegal to smoke in public places and at places of employment in Goose Creek goes into effect Monday.

The ordinance passed last January in a 4-3 vote by city council.

Smokers still have the option of smoking on porches and decks, as long they are ten feet away from the entrance of the building. Those caught smoking in public facilities or businesses would face a fine of $10 to $25.

Goose Creek, along with North Charleston, was one of the only cities in the state that allowed smoking in public places.

Charleston County Council enacted a ban on unincorporated parts of the county last year. Charleston, Summerville, and Mt. Pleasant also have smoking bans in place.
