COPY-Prescription painkiller deaths of women rise

(CNN) - Prescription drug overdose deaths are skyrocketing among women.

Men are still more likely to die from those kinds of overdoses, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says women are closing the gap.

The CDC says the number of women dying from prescription painkiller overdoses has increased more than 400 percent between 1999 and 2010.

That's compared to a 265-percent increase in those same kinds of deaths among men.

The federal health agency is reporting 10,000 men died in these kinds of overdoses in 2010 compared to 6,600 women.
