SUMMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -

A deputy with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office has been taken to the hospital after being involved in an accident late Wednesday night.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the crash happened just before 11 p.m. on Myers Road in Summerville. We're told the deputy was traveling southbound when a truck pulled out from private driveway. Officials say the deputy then ran into the truck.

The driver of the truck has been identified as 38-year-old John William Calvin. He was arrested at the scene and charged with driving under the influence. He was not injured in the accident.

The deputy was taken to Trident Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers tell us that both drivers were both wearing their seatbelts.
