NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Officials with North Myrtle Beach say one person was injured after a large firework shell exploded during their 4th of July fireworks show off the Cherry Grove Pier.
Officials say one of the large fireworks shells exploded prematurely and severely injured a worker with Zambelli Fireworks.
Authorities say the explosion blew an estimated two foot by three foot hole in the pier and damaged an estimated four feet of pier railing.
According to officials, the worker was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center
A spokesperson with Zembelli Fireworks say they had to remove the remaining fireworks from the Cherry Grove Pier by launching the remaining shells.
No one else was injured in the incident.
The North Myrtle Beach Fire Department is investigating the cause of the explosion.
