DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Traffic on I-95 northbound near St. George was backed up for a couple hours Saturday afternoon following two collisions, according to Highway Patrol.
Lance Corporal Judd Jones says two wrecks, each involving multiple vehicles, occurred within one mile of each other around 12:30 p.m. near mile marker 71.
In the first accident, Jones says a tractor trailer was switching lanes when it hit a vehicle, causing a chain reaction with two other vehicles. The big rig did not stop and left the scene. Two people suffered minor injuries.
The second wreck happened at about the same time. Jones says a BMW slammed into the back of a Honda, sending the Honda into another car. Four people were transported to Colleton Medical.
Officials say one lane was shut down while crews attended to the accidents. SCDOT cameras revealed heavy traffic congestion stretching back for nearly 10 miles.
Although the lane has been reopened, officials say there is still some congestion.
