NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston police say a handgun was found in a bin at the Goodwill on Dorchester Road last week.
According to a police report, the gun was found on July 3 in a bin filled with shoes at the Goodwill at 8730 Dorchester Road.
Police said the store's manager reported the discovery two days later. The manager she delayed calling police because she "did not know what to do."
The store's maintenance man had already "cleared" the weapon before police arrived. Police said the gun, a Ruger 357 Magnum, came back clear through records. It was placed into evidence at the police department.
The report did not state if the gun was loaded.
The officer told the manager and contacted the store's corporate office to let them know they should contact police immediately if they came across weapons in the future, and to only touch them with gloves on.
