MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

On Tuesday night, town council will review a big development project for Mt. Pleasant Towne Centre and there's some exciting additions planned.

An expansion coming soon to the Mt. Pleasant Town Centre means more retail space for a major flagship store and a brand new hotel.

The development and planning department was asked by the town centre to design and come up with a plan to add more retail space for Belk and add a new hotel.

The council will review the request in a first reading, but before any major work gets started, there are some issues that need to be approved.

"With the additional retail and the addition of the hotel we require anything that has that amount of new development to do what we call an impact assessment so they have to assess the impact on traffic in the area, drainage on the town surfaces," said Christiane Farrell, director of planning and development. "I think its something they thought would work well in that environment, they obviously have activities for folks with the movie theater right there places to eat shopping and something they thought would be an asset to their development"

The first phase of the project, which adds more retail space for Belk, is expected to be completed in time for the holiday season.
