Commission denies rezoning recommendations for Trailwood park

Planning commission denies Trailwood rezoning plans

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The North Charleston Planning Commission gave the "thumbs down" on two proposals to rezone the former Trailwood Mobile Home Park on Monday.

The proposals would change the zoning for the park, located off Dorchester Road, from "residential" to "light industrial."

If the change were to go through, hotels, offices and restaurants could be built on the land, but the planning commission met Tuesday and denied the recommendations, saying there wasn't enough information to make a decision.

The commission also referenced letters against the plan from residents living close to the area under consideration.

Last year, another rezoning plan involving Trailwood Mobile Home Park met a lot of resistance from residents. Many of those renters have since moved out after receiving notice to vacate.

Only a few tenants remain.

The commission's votes were only recommendations, and North Charleston City Council will have the final say on the plan. They are expected to take a vote on the requests later this month or in early August.
