SAN DIEGO (SAN DIEGO MAYOR'S OFFICE/CNN) - San Diego Mayor Bob Filner is admitting he's mistreated women that have worked for him over the years, but he stopped short of resigning.
He's been dogged by allegations of sexual harassment and some of his longtime backers are suggesting he step down.
Filner made a statement Thursday acknowledging he's engaged in bad behavior toward female employees and co-workers.
"As someone who has spent a lifetime fighting for equality for all people, I am embarrassed to admit I failed to fully respect the women who work for me and with me and that at times I have intimidated them," Filner said.
No women have come forward to publicly detail the allegations against Filner.
He's not facing any legal action, nor has he been charged with a crime.
