EDISTO ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Coast Guard and the Department of Health and Environmental Control were called out to the Edisto River Saturday morning after a 35-foot boat sank, releasing gas into the water, officials say.
According to an Edisto Beach emergency responder, the big boat sank overnight at a dock near Edisto Marina while the owner was asleep in a nearby condo. Only a small part of the boat could be spotted poking out of the water by Saturday afternoon.
The responder says fuel could be seen on the surface of the water flowing with the tide.
Officials say they do not believe any one was on board when the boat sunk.
What caused the boat to sink is unknown at this time.
