CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A walk and candlelight vigil for Trayvon Martin will be held in downtown Charleston on Monday night.
According to a Facebook invite, the walk will begin at 6 p.m. on Laurel Avenue, located between Mt. Pleasant Street and Sans Souci Street, and will proceed down the peninsula to Marion Square, where a vigil will begin at 7 p.m.
Those planning to attend are asked to provide their own candles for the vigil.
Organizers will begin meeting on Laurel Street at 5:30 p.m.
The Charleston Police Department will maintain a presence at the vigil "to make sure everything goes smoothly," according to police spokesman Charles Francis.
Meanwhile, the Charleston Branch NAACP announced Monday they would be holding a press conference Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. to release a statement "to the verdict in the trial of Trayvon Martin's murderer and on the status of the criminal justice system in our nation, state and community."
That press conference will be held outside the organization's new branch office at 81 Columbus Street.
