Beaufort Co. deputies on the lookout for carjacking suspects

BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office says deputies are investigating a carjacking that occurred outside of a Kinloch Road home early Saturday morning.

At 1 a.m., deputies responded to a report of gunfire on Kinloch Road. According to authorities, the 40-year-old male victim said he had been shot at, and someone had stolen his blue 2013 Dodge Challenger.

The sheriff's office says the victim was arriving at his girlfriend's home when the incident occurred. Investigators say the victim got out of his vehicle to move a large tree branch that was blocking the driveway.

According to the report, two armed men then came out of the woods near the house and fired at the victim. The victim was able to run safely into his girlfriend's home, but gunshots caused an estimated $1,200 in damages to the home and the victim's vehicle.

Deputies say the victim's vehicle was found abandoned and undamaged near Stroban Road later that afternoon.

According to police, the suspects are described as black males dressed in dark clothing. One of the suspects had long hair and the other was wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

The sheriff's office says the motive for the incident is currently unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
