Orangeburg's Ravenell wins 'Sheriff of the Year'

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell brought home the hardware Monday night as he was named South Carolina's 'Sheriff of the Year'.

Ravenell released a statement shortly after the award was announced.

"First, I am thankful to God as I am truly humbled by this recognition from the South Carolina Sheriffs' Association for the work we are doing in Orangeburg County to make this agency great. Since taking office February 4, 2011, I have been committed to making this county a place that is safer for all residents, business owners, and visitors. My life philosophy is to 'Be Firm, Be Fair, and Be Consistent.' I plan to continue to work hard for the people of Orangeburg County and make it tougher for criminals to terrorize the hard working people of this county.

I would like to thank my wife, Angela, and our children for the daily sacrifice they make to ensure I can perform my duties as Sheriff at highest levels.

A special thank you to Allendale County Sheriff Tom Carter, Jr. for nominating me for the award.

I would like to thank my staff for their hard work and commitment to the citizens of Orangeburg County because without their efforts, this agency would not be on the journey to professionalism, well-trained, and superior service.

Lastly, but not least, the citizens of this county have shown time after time that they are willing and committed partner in this fight to take back our community."
