Police: Upstate loss prevention officer bitten on the chest by shoplifter

SPARTANBURG, SC (WYFF) -

A 24-year-old Upstate woman is accused of biting a loss prevention officer in the chest after police say she stole an iPod case from a Walmart in Spartanburg.

Spartanburg Public Safety officers were called to the Walmart on East Main Street about a fight. Officers spoke to a loss prevention officer who said the suspect, identified as Ashleigh Young, bit him in the chest after he confronter her about the iPod case.

Police said the officer had a "significant bite injury."

Officers said Young was uncooperative, and yelled and swore at them as she was take into custody.

Young was charged with shoplifting and third-degree assault and battery. She was locked up at the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
