ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - An Orangeburg man has been sentenced to 38 years in prison after pleading guilty in the 2012 shooting death of a 31-year-old woman.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reported that 22-year-old Donte Jarod Stokes entered a guilty plea to the charge of murder before Circuit Judge Perry Buckner.
Buckner halted a trial that was set to begin Monday, accepted the plea and sentenced Stokes to 38 years in prison.
Prosecutors say Stokes was the gunman who fired the three shots that killed Kathy Davis of Orangeburg on June 21 last year.
Investigators say Davis was a passenger in a van that had been cut off in traffic and became the target of shots from several armed men. They said robbery was the motive.
