JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A Georgia man is behind bars after police found $625 worth of LSD in a car on Johns Island.
On Wednesday night, Charleston police officers spotted a Cadillac Deville driving on Savannah Highway with broken rear tail lights and an obstructed rear window.
Officers then stopped the car and made contact with the driver, 31-year-old Lawrence Dean Schmidt of Savannah, Ga. Authorities say Schmidt appeared to be "very nervous," unable to maintain eye contact and was breathing rapidly.
Police then searched Schmidt's car after he gave officers consent to search the vehicle.
An officer reported that he found two clear plastic bags in a stereo console that had been tampered with.
A police report states the bag had aluminum foil wrappings that contained a strip of paper, which Schmidt later identified as "10 hits of acid."
According to investigators, officers also located 15 colored tables with the inscription "Sweet Tarts." Schmidt said the tablets were also "hits of acid."
Schmidt was locked up at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
