Police: Couple caught with pound of weed during DSS welfare check

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - A couple has been charged with drug dealing and ill treatment of a child after a DSS worker conducted a welfare check at an apartment in West Ashley.

The Charleston Police Department arrested 27-year-old William Matthew Wright and 24-year-old Damisha Inez Dogan.

On Thursday morning, officers responded to a home on Planters Trace Apartments on Ashley River Road in reference to assisting a Department of Social Services worker.

The DSS worker reported that when she arrived at the apartment to conduct a visit, she detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the home.

According to police officials, officers confiscated almost one pound of marijuana and $850 in cash from the apartment.
