COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Protesters upset with the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial are holding a rally at the South Carolina Statehouse.
Organizers say they are scheduled to meet at the Statehouse on Saturday morning. After remarks from people including state Rep. Leon Howard, participants are marching to the federal courthouse in downtown Columbia.
Participants are encouraged to bring school supplies and nonperishable food items for donation. There will also be an opportunity to sign a petition to call on the U.S. Department of Justice to pursue federal charges against Zimmerman.
The group is upset that Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in the 2012 shooting death of Trayvon Martin.
