Man accused of causing nearly $2k worth of damage to stadium gift shop

DANIEL ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department says a man was arrested early Sunday morning on Daniel Island after he caused almost $2,000 worth of damages to the Charleston Battery Stadium gift shop.

Police were called around 3:30 a.m. by a Blackbaud night watchman who said a driver of a pickup truck was doing "donuts" in the parking lot, and had crashed into a metal fence and light pole.

According to authorities, the driver,  Michael Brown, complied with an officer's request to pull over, but then left the vehicle and fled to the nearby stadium.

Investigators say Brown was found about twenty minutes later, hiding behind a rack of clothes in the Charleston Battery Stadium's gift shop. Police say the store appeared to have been left unlocked.

According to the police report, merchandise had been strewn around the store, and the covering of an air conditioning unit had been used to bang against a broom closet door.

The damages caused by Brown are estimated to be worth $1,705. Brown was arrested and charged with burglary, vandalism and a traffic violation.
